Enrollment & Retention
Enrollment and retention is the part of a martial arts school’s business that decides whether it survives. This section covers the whole chain: how an enquiry is answered, what happens on the phone, how a trial or intro class is structured, the enrollment conversation itself, the first ninety days of membership, and why students stop coming. Articles cover intro-to-enrollment conversion, programme and belt structure as retention tools, attendance monitoring, the back door — the students leaving quietly while the school counts new sign-ups — and the difference between a monthly dropout rate of five or six per cent and one of one or two. Where numbers appear, they belong to a named school at a stated date. Retention is treated here as an operational discipline rather than a personality trait: schools that keep students usually have a system for noticing absence early, not a more inspiring instructor.
