Martial Arts Professional is the trade journal of the martial arts school business, published by the National Association of Professional Martial Artists since 1996. This page explains how to read it, and what a NAPMA membership adds.
Reading the journal
Current reporting, columns, industry history and the awards register publish here at MartialArtsProfessional.com and are free to read. New articles appear weekly — reported business news, owner economics, and columns from Grand Master Stephen Oliver, Grand Master Jeff Smith and Chief Master Greg Moody, Ph.D.
What the full library includes
- Weekly articles — reported news and analysis of the school business, published as it happens rather than to a print schedule.
- The columnists — monthly columns from working operators, not staff writers.
- Business Breakthrough TV — the magazine’s video library of recorded sessions with school owners and industry figures.
- The Lifetime Achievement register — the full citation for every recipient of the award, from Joe Lewis to Chuck Norris.

Frequently asked
What is Martial Arts Professional?
It is the trade journal of the professional martial arts school business, published by Martial Arts Marketing, Inc. / NAPMA since 1996. It reports on how schools are actually run — pricing, enrollment, retention, staffing, teaching and the history of the profession — for owners of traditional martial arts schools, Brazilian jiu-jitsu academies and MMA gyms.
Is it the same thing as Mastering the Martial Arts Business Magazine?
Yes. That name was used for some print-era issues. The publication has one official name: Martial Arts Professional. Older issues carrying the other title are indexed in the print archive.
Does it cost anything to read?
Articles published on MartialArtsProfessional.com are free to read. The magazine is also included with NAPMA membership.
Is Martial Arts Professional the same as Martial Arts Wealth Mastery?
No, and the distinction matters. Martial Arts Professional is a journal published by NAPMA, the professional association. Martial Arts Wealth Mastery is a separate coaching company founded by Grand Master Stephen Oliver, who is also the magazine’s publisher. Coaching offers are labelled as such and are not editorial endorsements. See the About page for the full disclosure.
How do I submit a story, a correction or a letter?
Write to the editor through the publisher’s contact page or telephone (720) 256-0208. We correct errors of fact on the record and say what changed. Letters may be edited for length and clarity.
Can I advertise in Martial Arts Professional?
Yes. See the media information page.
