School Owner Profiles: Behind the Scenes with the Top 1%
Behind the Scenes with the Top 1% is the journal’s school owner profile series: how the operators at the top of the profession run their schools, from training and lineage to team, systems and the numbers they watch. The series hub is at https://www.martialartsprofessional.com/school-owner-profiles/. School Owner Profiles are the journal’s case studies: named operators describing what they changed and what happened afterwards. A profile in this section should carry the specifics — student count, tuition, staffing, the constraint the owner was actually up against — rather than a testimonial. Where the operator profiled is a client of the publisher’s coaching company or a NAPMA member, the article says so; that disclosure is part of the editorial policy rather than an afterthought. The section spans small independent schools, multi-location operators, traditional martial arts academies, Brazilian jiu-jitsu academies and MMA gyms, and print-era profiles are labelled as archive material. Profiles are the closest thing this profession has to comparable data: there is no census of martial arts schools, so a documented account of one school’s numbers is worth more than an industry average nobody can source.
