Sterling, Virginia, 2015: A Mastermind Meeting and What Came Out of It

A May 2015 mastermind meeting with Jeff Smith, Stephen Oliver and Greg Moody, and the numbers attendees reported afterwards.

In May 2015 school owners from across the United States met in Sterling, Virginia, for a mastermind meeting run for members of the coaching programme now known as Martial Arts Wealth Mastery. The presenting faculty were Grand Master Jeff Smith, Stephen Oliver and Chief Master Greg Moody.

The meeting is worth the industry record for two reasons. The first is the room itself: an unusually cross-disciplinary group for 2015, with Tae Kwon Do, Kenpo, BJJ, MMA, Krav Maga and the Joe Lewis and Cobra systems all represented. Attendees included Steve White (Manchester, New Hampshire), Travis Tooke (Houston, Texas), Jeff Paterson (Portland, Oregon), Dae Han Jo (Mendham, New Jersey), Jan Lappin (Middleburg, Florida), Karis Brody (Joliet, Illinois), Greg Macy (Fort Collins, Colorado), Simon Chang (Columbus, Georgia), Chief Master Phil Minton (Terre Haute, Indiana) and Les and Jenni Edwards.

The second is that attendees reported specific figures afterwards, which makes the meeting one of the few points in the period where the profession left a numerical record of what a mastermind was worth to the people in it.

What attendees reported afterwards

“Last weekend was incredible! I learned enough in the first 10 minutes to pay for my trip. With all that we learned it should add at least 100K to our bottom line in all 3 locations over the next year. … Thank you so much to Grandmaster Jeff Smith, Grandmaster Stephen Oliver and Sr. Master Moody.”

Les and Jenni Edwards

“All of Grandmaster Oliver’s sales, marketing, and operational mentoring helped us train our staff to organize a weekend event that generated 107 appointments and over 35 immediate enrollments. We have increased our monthly billables by 6K and 15K in cash.”

A substantial handout library was distributed at the meeting — leadership programme curriculum outlines, enrollment packets, intro questionnaires, renewal interview scripts, goal sheets and student-facing cards. That material survives in the programme archive.

Testimonials are reproduced as written at the time and are the attendees’ own reported figures, not audited results. The coaching programme was then operating under an earlier name and is now Martial Arts Wealth Mastery. Every subject quoted was a paying member of the programme.
