Marketing
Marketing, in this journal, means how a martial arts school reaches people who have never trained and gets them onto the mat — not brand awareness, and not vanity reach. The articles here cover community outreach and school-based programmes, referral and word-of-mouth systems, paid channels and what each costs per enrolled student rather than per lead, direct mail and local presence, digital advertising and search, and the offers schools put in front of a cold audience. Where a piece names a cost, a conversion rate or a return, it says whose school produced it and when. The section spans thirty years of the profession, so it holds both current practice and print-era campaigns that are kept as a record of how schools filled classes before the channels changed; archive articles are labelled as such. The recurring argument across the section is that acquisition cost is only meaningful next to retention: a school that buys students it cannot keep has bought a treadmill, not growth.
