The 40 Most Common Mistakes Fighters Commit, Part 6

21.   One of the most frequently committed mistakes by both full-contact and point fighters is stopping inside the pocket after attacking. Once they stop, they fail to continue working and just cover up, without attempting to disengage or reset.

22.   Many fighters lack the ability to use body punches equal in skill to their head shots. Remember that the body cavity is a much larger target than the cranial cavity, and it contains just as many nerve extensions (affecting knockouts), approximately 100,000, as does the head.

23.   Improperly-trained fighters lack the ability to rotate their hips properly through the centerline when they attempt to execute a power punch. This causes their punches to be more of a slap than a knockout shot. For power punching, the hip always rotates and crosses the centerline before the punches are released.

24.   A major mistake of inexperienced fighters is the inability to maintain a confident composure when either they are fatigued or hurt. They also lack the ability to maintain a sense of remaining focused when they experience a loss of control. Both of these bad habits can be prevented when a fighter studies under an educated trainer.
