It will be his first directorial assignment of an American film.

Bruce Lee added to his popularity when he portrayed the manservant Kato in the 1966 U.S. TV series, which is the role Chow will play in the film that is projected to be release by Columbia Pictures on June 25, 2010. Lee was so popular in Hong Kong that, when The Green Hornet TV shows were shown there, the title was changed to The Kato Show.

<![endif]-->In a recent interview, John Fusco, who wrote the screenplay for The Forbidden Kingdom, revealed that a sequel to the film, featuring both Jackie Chan and Jet Li, is being discussed.

Fusco also talked about how differently Chan and Li approached the movie and his experience working with the two legendary martial arts film stars. According to Fusco, Li wanted to be in the film because he had always wanted to portray the Monkey King, while Chan saw an opportunity finally to work with Li.

He said that Li was a great resource and guide to help emphasize his insights of Buddhist principles, which Fusco had always wanted in the movie, long before Li agreed to appear in the film.

Fusco said that Chan had an entirely different approach to his portion of the script, Yin to Li’s Yang. Fusco claimed that Chan gave him a bottle of Jackie Chan Shiraz for every line of dialogue that Fusco cut. Chan helped Fusco, rewrite the lines, so they were punchier.

Fusco also commented on his “re-imaging” of the classic Akira Kurosawa film, The Seven Samurai. Titled Mag 7, Fusco’s film does not take place in feudal Japan and there are no swords; instead, the story is set in the contemporary world of security contractors.

<![endif]-->A few months ago, Industry Insider reported that a car had crashed into one of Stephen Oliver’s Mile High Karate schools in the Denver, Colorado area. Now, in what can only be described as eerie circumstances, automobiles have been involved in three additional incidents that have damaged martial arts schools and caused bodily injuries.

Recently, in Zionsville, Indiana, a motorist crashed into Adamson’s Karate Studio, where emergency crews found the car completely inside the building. The crash occurred after-hours, so no one was inside the school and the driver wasn’t injured. He reported that he stepped on the gas, when he meant to brake.

In Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, a man crashed into Dubb’s Karate, causing his passenger to sustain two broken vertebrae and cuts and bruises on her hands and head. The driver admitted to having blacked out; and, although he denied he was drinking or using drugs, his passenger had stated and then recanted a statement, indicating that they had been “huffing” on an air canister just prior to the crash. That potential evidence was not admissible because the local hospital had not conducted the appropriate blood tests on the driver.

After pleading guilty to one count of recklessly endangering another person, the driver was sentenced to two years probation and the judge ordered him to complete three times as much community service than standard, earn his high school diploma and pay his passenger $108 in restitution.

Around the world, in Queensland, Australia, a Supreme Court Justice has ruled that the driver of a car that hit a Taekwondo student in a 1989 incident and the owner of the martial arts school that the student attended should pay $730,850 (Australian) in damages. The judge also found the now-deceased Taekwondo instructor and the student that was hit also responsible, reducing the damages by 20%.

According to court records, the student, who was a juvenile at the time, was part of a class jogging near a busy roadway. He suddenly moved onto the road and was hit. Although the driver was not cited for breaking any traffic laws, the judge ruled he should have been more cautious. The student sustained head and neck injuries that have left him unable to work.

During an earlier 2008 press conference, Trump boasted that by joining with Affliction, it would be able to challenge the dominance of the UFC, especially once it put Couture and Emelianenko in the same ring. Emelianenko is currently under contract with Affliction.

Not so fast, says White. Following the settlement of the lawsuits and countersuits between Couture and UFC, he will reportedly fight WWE Champion Brock Lesnar on November 15th, under a UFC contract. Some MMA commentators think this is a move to eliminate Affliction as a UFC competitor because The Donald and his partner won’t be able to stage the much-heralded Couture/Emelianenko fight.

It appears White’s strategy is not to interfere with the Affliction/Emelianenko relationship because he expects Affliction to go the way of so many UFC competitors, leaving Emelianenko to sign with UFC in the near future; and then UFC can promote the fight everyone wants to see. Your move, Donnie!

<![endif]-->Seoul, South Korea…A Korean newspaper recently reported that the International Taekwondo Federation became a front for the North Korean government more than 20 years ago, training and disguising spies as TKD masters, in an attempt to assassinate the South Korean president of the 1980s.

According to the story, Choi Jung-hwa, son of the late Choi Hong-hi who founded the International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) in 1966, claims that he was recruited and was part of a plot to kill the South Korean president, during a visit to Canada in 1982. Canadian police intervened to stop the assassination attempt.

Choi made these statements to another newspaper, after returning from living overseas for 34 years, including North Korea, where he fled after the debacle in Canada.

Choi’s father, who died in 2002, left South Korea to live in Canada, during the 1970s, taking the ITF with him. Since 1973, when the World Taekwondo Federation was founded in South Korea, it has surpassed the ITF in memberships, although ITF-style taekwondo enjoys greater popularity abroad. WTF Taekwondo became an Olympic competition at the Sydney Games in 2000.
