Ugandan Military Police Learn Taekwondo Tactics to Control Crowds Peacefully
By MAPro • Oct 21st, 2008 • Category: Industry Insider, Martial Arts ResoucesKampala, Uganda…During their speeches addressed to 110 military police graduates at Uganda’s Kigo Training School, two top commanders of the Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) stated that police personnel may no longer use firearms to quell riots because they had learned sufficient Taekwondo and other fighting skills to control crowds more peacefully.
Following a 30-minute Taekwondo demonstration, Lt. Col. Tumusiime Katsigazi, military police commander, said, “With the level of training we have, we might not need rifles in the future while fighting rioters. The fighting skills we have acquired are enough to push rioters away without releasing a bullet.”
