Martial Arts Fighter Receives Lenient Sentence, Helps Federal Agents Bust Steroid Ring
By MAPro • May 19th, 2008 • Category: Industry Insider, Martial Arts ResoucesBrunswick, Georgia…Jeff Beaty, 37, of Nashville, Tennessee, avoided months of imprisonment and a heavy fine, when a federal judge sentenced him to five years’ probation for his cooperation with government investigators to convict illegal anabolic steroid traffickers and operators of clandestine laboratories.
Beaty was convicted for his assistance in the distribution of steroids. He admitted to being a “remailer” that sends packages of steroids to customers who had purchased them over the Internet from dealers. In exchange, he received human growth hormone to help his shoulder heal faster.
Known online as The Priest, Beaty could have received a 10- to 16-month sentence and required to pay a fine of as much as $50,000. In addition to his probation sentence, he must do 150 hours of community service and undergo random drug tests.
According to the U.S. attorney, Beaty was ready to cooperate as soon as he was arrested. He allowed [federal] agents to use his online identity and identified cellular telephone numbers that led to [several] convictions.
The U.S. government had targeted rogue steroid manufacturers in China and steroid traffickers and clandestine laboratories in the United States, during an 18-month investigation.
