Philippine martial arts for several years under Dan Inosanto and Richard Bustillo in Los Angeles.
The Repossession Mambo is a futuristic adventure thriller, starring Whitaker as well as Jude Law and Filipino-American actress, Liza Lapira. Twenty years in the future in Toronto, two disturbed veterans who have returned from war in Africa resume their lives as repossession agents for a union company that makes artificial organs. They are assigned to pursue customers who are unable to make payments for implanted organs.
“The background of choreographer Jeff (Imada) is in Philippine martial arts, so I was able to exhibit my skills in kali, the Filipino martial art of stick fighting,” said Whitaker.
Whitaker is best known for his recent role as the late Ugandan dictator, Idi Amin, in The Last King of Scotland and his portrayal of jazz legend, Charlie Parker, in the Clint Eastwood film, Bird, for which Whitaker won the 1988 Cannes Film Festival’s Best Actor award. He is currently starring with an outstanding ensemble cast in the action-thriller, Vantage Point.
